Recognition Demonstrates Steward Health Care’s Unwavering Commitment to Best-in-Class Care and Exceptional Patient Experience

Haverhill, MA December 21, 2020 – Holy Family Hospital, a Steward family hospital, was awarded an ‘A’, and the “Top General Hospital” designation for achieving the highest national standards in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2020 Hospital Safety Grades. The designation recognizes Holy Family’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. Holy Family Hospital is part of Steward Health Care – the largest private, tax paying physician-led health care network in the United States – which leverages technology, innovation and care coordination to provide the highest quality care and safety in communities where patients live.

Holy Family is one of only two community hospitals in Massachusetts, and one of only 29 in the nation to be awarded the elite “Top General Hospital” designation. The designation is based on hospital performance in clinical areas including preventing infections, reducing unnecessary C-sections, avoiding medication errors, maternity care, and safe surgery.

“This year has been especially challenging for our staff and community, but despite the obstacles of the pandemic, patient safety has remained a top priority. We are honored to see this commitment recognized with this prestigious designation,” said Craig Jesiolowski, President of Holy Family Hospital. “The ‘A’ grade we’ve received from the Leapfrog group, and the elite designation as “Top General Hospital”, reflects our continued investments in patient safety, which ensure patients in our community have access to the best possible care.”

“To be recognized nationally as an ‘A’ hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error. We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this A.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
