Support Group for Caregivers Held Monthly at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill

Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill is hosting a support group for caregivers of loved ones with memory loss.

The group helps caregivers manage the needs of their loved ones and helps them better understand and cope with the daily challenges of being a caregiver.

The group is facilitated by Patricia Lavoie, LICSW,  the program director in the Senior Adult Behavioral Medicine Center at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill.

Lavoie understands the vital role caregivers serve. She has seen the stress they are under and decided to offer help by forming the support group.

"Caregivers sometimes have difficulty understanding how valuable support groups are. The goal of our support group is to aid caregivers in managing the patient, and in understanding and coping with the daily challenges of care giving. Ultimately, a support group helps caregivers realize that they aren't alone in the process, and that help, advice and support are available from others who are going through the same thing,” said Lavoie.

Meetings are monthly on the third Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the hospital’s first-floor Atrium. Light refreshments are served.
