Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini Welcomes Holy Family Hospital Surgeons to the City

Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini made a special trip to Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill to welcome two new general and colorectal surgeons, Romie Mundy, MD, and Jana Simonds, MD.

Dr. Simonds and Dr. Mundy are spearheading the general and colorectal surgery program at Holy Family Hospital, which has campuses in Haverhill and Methuen.

“I am proud to welcome Dr. Simonds and Dr. Mundy. The future of our city hospital is of utmost importance and I wish them much success,” said Mayor Fiorentini.

Dr. Mundy and Dr. Simonds have ties to this area.

“Haverhill is my wife’s hometown and during my interviews here I was favorably impressed with every person I met. I felt Haverhill would be a great fit for me and my family,” said Dr. Mundy.

Dr. Mundy, a general surgeon fellowship trained in colon and rectal surgery, earned his medical degree at University of Toledo College of Medicine in Ohio, and then completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Baystate Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine. Following residency, Dr. Mundy completed fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown Alpert School of Medicine in Providence, RI.

Dr. Simonds is excited to be back in New England where she completed her residency training, because it reminds her of home.

Dr. Simonds, also a general surgeon fellowship trained in colon and rectal surgery, earned her medical degree at University of California San Diego School of Medicine.  She completed her residency in general surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, and her fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at The Colon and Rectal Clinic of Houston/University of Texas Medical School. A native of Slovakia, she is fluent in English, Slovak, Czech, and Russian, and understands Polish.

“There is a need for general surgeons with colorectal expertise in Haverhill and the Merrimack Valley. I am pleased to be part of this unique community which reminds me of the region of Slovakia where I grew up,” said Dr. Simonds.

Dr. Simonds  and Dr. Mundy are accepting new patients at SMG General Surgery, 62 Brown St., Suite 303, Haverhill, MA as well as Steward North Andover Surgery, 575 Turnpike St., Suite 27,  North Andover,  MA where they have joined practice with  General Surgeons, V.R.
