FREE PALLIATIVE CARE EDUCATIONAL SERIES OFFERED TO COMMUNITY

Many families face difficult challenges related to illness and aging.  Very often, caregivers wrestle with medical options and care planning decisions during times of emergency and crisis.
 
Holy Family Hospital and Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services invite all community members to a free educational program called “Supporting the Chronically and Seriously Ill and Their Families.”  
 
This program is in two-parts, and participants may attend one or both sessions.  The series schedule is:
 
Tuesday, May 10, 2016: “Planning for a Future that Includes Illness,” presented by MC Sullivan,RN, MTS, JD.  
This session will address Advanced Care Planning: what it is and how it works, and defining palliative care.
 
Tuesday, May 17, 2016: “Managing Expected and Unexpected Decisions, presented by Deborah Turiano, MD, HMDC.  
This session will address defining the natural course of chronicprogressive disease, exploring choices you are likely to face,
and learning to integrate family values into the care of your loved one.
 
Advanced care planning tools will be available for participants to take home including the Massachusetts Health Care Proxy and The Conversation Project Starter Kit.  
 
Both sessions will begin at 6:30 pm and will be held in the Holy Family Hospital Methuen campus ground floor auditorium, 70 East St., Methuen.  
Light refreshments will be served.
